Kapil Dev-Grant Thornton Invitational 2025: Breaking Barriers in Indian Golf
The Kapil Dev – Grant Thornton Invitational is set to revolutionize Indian golf once again, returning for its third edition at the world-class Prestige Golfshire in Bengaluru from April 23 to 26, 2025. In a groundbreaking move, this year’s tournament will mark the first time India’s top male and female professionals compete together for the same prize purse of INR 2 crores—a bold step toward true equality in professional golf.
More than just a tournament, this event is redefining the future of Indian golf. Co-sanctioned by the Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI) and the Women’s Golf Association of India (WGAI), it blends high-stakes competition with an immersive fan experience, setting a precedent for inclusivity in the sport.
“Golf is a game of precision, passion, and perseverance, and this event embodies all three,” said Kapil Dev, cricket legend and PGTI President. “By bringing men and women onto the same stage, we’re not just elevating the competition—we’re sending a message about the future of Indian sports. This tournament is about legacy, opportunity, and inspiring the next generation.”
Vishesh C. Chandiok, CEO of Grant Thornton Bharat, reinforced the event’s larger impact: “This is not just another golf tournament; it’s a movement. By breaking down barriers and creating a truly inclusive stage, we are reshaping Indian sports into something more diverse, accessible, and forward-thinking.”
The format promises high drama, featuring a three-day, 54-hole championship where 60 men and 12 women will battle for supremacy. Adding to the spectacle, a unique Pro-Am segment will pair professionals with amateurs from business, entertainment, and sport, blending elite golf with a touch of celebrity flair.
PGTI CEO Amandeep Johl highlighted the excitement: “The participation of leading Indian women professionals adds a whole new layer of intensity. With this year’s format and a stunning venue, we’re offering something that Indian golf has never seen before.”
