Ahlawat banks on Delhi Golf Club magic at DP World India Championship

For Veer Ahlawat, this isn’t just another tournament. The DP World India Championship at Delhi Golf Club could decide where his career goes next.

The 29-year-old sits 141st on the DP World Tour standings and needs to climb into the Top-115 to keep his full playing rights for next season. “This is the biggest opportunity I have left,” he says. “A top-five is the goal. Anything less and I’m looking at limited starts next year.”

If there’s a course built for a turnaround, it’s this one. Ahlawat grew up on these narrow, tree-lined fairways and knows every corner of the place. He’s posted multiple top-10 finishes here and once shot an 8-under round. With his long-time caddie Surya—who knows the course just as well—he feels right at home.

And this week isn’t just big for him. With a $4 million purse and global stars like Rory McIlroy, Tommy Fleetwood, Shane Lowry and Viktor Hovland in the field, the DP World India Championship is the biggest professional event India has ever hosted. Ahlawat knows it will draw crowds of young golfers eager to watch the world’s best and dream about their own future.

For Ahlawat, it all comes together now: a beloved home course, the biggest stage Indian golf has seen, and the chance to secure his place on tour. It’s a rare mix of personal history and national pride—exactly the moment he’s been working toward.
