Shubhankar Sharma leads Indian charge into the weekend at DP World India Championship

Shubhankar Sharma rediscovered his form in spectacular fashion at the DP World India Championship, firing a bogey-free 66—his best round in nearly seven months—to lead five Indians into the weekend at the Delhi Golf Club.

After a challenging start to the season, Sharma found rhythm and confidence on Friday, rolling in six birdies—three on either side of the course—to finish T-32 at 4-under 140. “I’m really happy,” said Sharma. “My mentality was different today—more relaxed and rested. The course is getting tougher, but I’m enjoying the challenge.”

He was joined by Dhruv Sheoran (68-73), Shiv Kapur (72-69), and Anirban Lahiri (70-71) at T-41 (3-under), while Abhinav Lohan (70-72) also made the cut at T-58 (2-under).

The Delhi Golf Club crowd was treated to a star-studded spectacle as Rory McIlroy—followed by a massive gallery—was greeted at the 18th green by cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar and Yuvraj Narayan, Group Deputy CEO & CFO of DP World. McIlroy closed with four birdies in his last six holes to sit T-17 at 6-under, alongside Viktor Hovland.

At the top, Tommy Fleetwood surged into the lead with a stunning 64, his second-round 8-under taking him to 12-under-par, one ahead of Shane Lowry (64-69) and Brian Harman (68-65). Fleetwood credited his control off the tee and sharp iron play: “I hit it in the fairway a lot today and just gave myself good chances. It was a really good round of golf.”

The cut was set at 2-under, and while the course firmed up under the Delhi sun, Indian fans had plenty to cheer as their homegrown stars advanced into the weekend against the world’s best.
