Sandhu & Bhattacharya share lead at Poona Club Open
Delhi’s Shaurya Bhattacharya carded a brilliant eight-under 63, the lowest round of the tournament, while Yuvraj Sandhu followed with a four-under 67 as the duo shared the halfway lead at 10-under 132 at the ₹1 crore Poona Club Open 2025 being played at the Poona Club Golf Course in Pune.
Shaurya, who began the day tied-14th, surged up the leaderboard with 10 birdies against two bogeys to join PGTI Order of Merit leader Sandhu at the top. Hyderabad’s Mohd Azhar (64-70) slipped to third at eight-under 134 after a steady round of 70.
The cut was applied at two-over 144, with 57 professionals advancing to the weekend rounds.
Among other notable names, Veer Ahlawat, the 2024 PGTI Rankings champion, was tied-eighth at six-under 136, while local hope Akshay Damale led the Pune contingent in tied-24th at one-under 141.
Reflecting on his round, Shaurya said,
“I hit my drives well and kept it close all day. The reachable par-4s gave me great birdie chances, and my putting really clicked. I’ve had a consistent season, and my game feels headed in the right direction.”
Sandhu, who recovered from three early bogeys with seven birdies, said,
“It took me some time to settle, but the birdie on the seventh was the turning point. From there, I found my rhythm off the tee and built good momentum.”
