Lahiri opens strong at Hong Kong Open
India’s Anirban Lahiri produced a solid opening round of five-under 65 to stay well in contention after day one of the Link Hong Kong Open, part of the Asian Tour’s International Series, where LIV Golf’s Tom McKibbin stole early headlines with a stunning course record 10-under 60.
Lahiri, representing Crushers GC, described his round as “turbulent but rewarding” after a day that included one eagle, five birdies, and a single bogey. “I hit it great all day but the putts wouldn’t drop early,” he said. “I just told myself to stay patient, stick to the process, and things eventually started to fall my way.”
Playing alongside Louis Oosthuizen, Lahiri admitted the pairing helped him stay sharp. “I told myself to keep him in sight—he was playing really well—and it kept me focused. We had a lot of fun out there,” he added.
It was another promising start for Lahiri, who has been one of the strongest supporters of the International Series since its inception. “It’s fantastic to see the growth of these events—Hong Kong has so much heritage, and it’s special to be part of a field like this,” he said.
Among other Indians, Ajeetesh Sandhu and S.S.P. Chawrasia carded matching 4-under 66s, while McKibbin led the leaderboard, followed closely by Jazz Janewattananond at nine-under.
The Hong Kong Open continues Friday at the Hong Kong Golf Club, with Lahiri eyeing another low round to climb further up the leaderboard.
