Lahiri steady as McKibbin maintains narrow lead in Hong Kong
India’s Anirban Lahiri delivered another composed round of three-under 67 to stay firmly in the mix after day three of the Link Hong Kong Open, where Tom McKibbin held onto his lead despite fierce challenges from MJ Maguire and Peter Uihlein.
Lahiri, who has been among the most consistent performers this season, moved to 12-under and into T-18, continuing his strong run on the Asian Tour’s International Series. “I’ve been playing solidly all week,” said the Crushers GC star. “The course has been tricky in patches, but I’ve stayed patient and given myself enough looks at birdies. A couple more putts dropping tomorrow, and I can push higher.”
McKibbin, who started the week with a record-breaking 60, followed up with another fine 65 to sit at 20-under, one ahead of Maguire, whose stunning 61 featured a hole-out eagle on the 11th. Uihlein carded his own 65 to trail by two.
Among other Indians, S.S.P. Chawrasia (1-under) and Ajeetesh Sandhu (also 1-under) finished at 8-under and 7-under, respectively.
McKibbin admitted it was a tougher day following overnight rain. “The pins were tighter today, but I played smart and holed a few key putts,” he said.
With one round to go, Lahiri remains India’s top performer and will look to close strong as the Hong Kong Open heads for an exciting Sunday finish at the Hong Kong Golf Club.
