McKibbin shines in debut Asian Tour win at Hong Kong Open
Northern Irish star Tom McKibbin capped a dream debut on the Asian Tour with a dominant seven-stroke victory at the US$2 million Link Hong Kong Open, held at Hong Kong Golf Club. The 22-year-old LIV Golf player fired a final-round 63 to post a record-breaking 27-under 253, setting a new 72-hole scoring record and matching the event’s largest winning margin.
The Legion XIII team member led from start to finish, staying composed even under pressure. After birdies on the 1st, 3rd, and 8th, McKibbin pulled away with a brilliant run of five more on the back nine, sealing the win despite a closing bogey. “It was some of the best golf I’ve ever played,” said McKibbin. “To win such a historic event and break the scoring record—it’s something I’ll remember forever.”
His victory also earns him berths at The Open and the 2026 Masters, marking his debut at Augusta National. “Driving down Magnolia Lane for the first time will be really special,” he added.
American Peter Uihlein finished runner-up at 20-under despite a late quadruple bogey, while Louis Oosthuizen, Tomoyo Ikemura, and MJ Maguire shared third.
Among Indians, Anirban Lahiri closed with a steady 68 to finish 14-under, leading the trio of SSP Chawrasia (10-under) and Ajeetesh Sandhu (9-under).
The Asian Tour now moves to Singapore for the US$2 million Moutai Singapore Open, the eighth stop of the International Series.
