Ajeetesh Sandhu makes cut at Moutai Singapore Open
India’s Ajeetesh Sandhu shot a second-round 3-under 69 to comfortably make the cut at the Moutai Singapore Open, taking his two-day total to 5-under 139 at the Singapore Island Country Club.
Starting from the back nine, Sandhu made a quick move with three birdies in his opening stretch but couldn’t build further momentum on the front side. He sits tied for 50th at the halfway mark of the US$2 million event.
Korea’s Soomin Lee stormed into the lead with an 8-under 64, reaching 12-under overall for a two-shot advantage over a crowded chasing pack of 10 players, including Kevin Yuan, Matthew Cheung, Ian Snyman, and Jeunghun Wang.
Lee, who famously finished runner-up here in the 2011 Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship behind Hideki Matsuyama, produced nine birdies and one bogey in his round. “I have good memories here,” said Lee. “I felt confident, and my putting was really strong today.”
The 32-year-old, a former DP World Tour and Korean PGA Tour winner, has found form again after a recent top-10 in the International Series Philippines.
Reigning Asian Tour Order of Merit champion John Catlin stayed bogey-free with a 66, while Chinese-Taipei’s Wang Wei-hsuan, a three-time winner this season, remained in contention at 10-under.
Meanwhile, The International Series leader Scott Vincent and Asian Tour No. 1 Kazuki Higa both missed the cut — Vincent by one stroke and Higa by three. Filipino star Miguel Tabuena (68) moved into a strong position at 8-under, ready to challenge over the weekend.
Singapore amateurs Brayden Lee and Troy Storm impressed again, with Lee carding a 68 to reach 7-under and 16-year-old Storm rallying late to post 72 and sit at 5-under, tied with England’s Paul Casey.
