Sahith Theegala rebounds with 65 to surge into weekend at Bermuda

Sahith Theegala delivered one of the best rounds of the day, carding a six-under 65 in tough, windy conditions to climb from T-104 to T-46 at the Butterfield Bermuda Championship. His strong second round not only secured his weekend spot but also put him in position to make a meaningful move in the PGA TOUR’s Fall stretch.

Only four players posted scores better than Theegala’s 65 on Friday.

The 2024 Tour Championship qualifier has struggled this season due to injury, opening with a 76 at Port Royal. But his second round was a sharp turnaround: seven birdies, including a five-hole streak from the seventh to the 11th, against just one bogey. He finished at one-under for 36 holes, though a par-par finish over the closing stretch left a few chances on the table.

Theegala began the week 143rd in the FedExCup Fall standings but retains his PGA TOUR card for 2026 thanks to his 2024 Tour Championship appearance. Still, he needs to make significant progress to qualify for next year’s $20 million Signature Events. Once ranked as high as No. 11 in the world, he now sits 97th.

Up top, Canada’s Adam Hadwin held the lead after a five-under 66 moved him to 11-under 131. Hadwin, 147th in the standings and fighting to keep full PGA TOUR status, carries a one-shot lead into the weekend. Chandler Phillips (64) and Braden Thornberry (65) sit one back, while Max McGreevy (64) and Noah Goodwin (67) are tied at nine under.

Six players were unable to complete their rounds before darkness, with McGreevy facing the toughest of the shifting winds as he split late Thursday and early Friday tee times.
