Jairaj Sandhu opens with 68 for the lead
Jairaj Singh Sandhu opened the Vishwa Samudra Open 2025 presented by Kapil Dev with a four-under 68 to grab the clubhouse lead at Delhi Golf Club, setting the early pace in the INR 2 crore event.
Mani Ram stayed within striking distance after a 69, while Veer Ahlawat, Yuvraj Singh and Sanjeev Kumar shared third on 70.
It was a stop-start day in Delhi. Morning fog pushed the first tee back by 15 minutes, and fading light later forced suspension at 5:35 pm with 22 of the 126-player field still on the course. Those players will complete round one from 7 am on Wednesday, with round two beginning only after the opening round is finished. Mari Muthu R was best placed among the unfinished rounds at one-under through 15 holes. PGTI Order of Merit leader Yuvraj Sandhu signed for a 73.
Sandhu’s 68 came after a quiet start. The left-hander traded a bogey and a birdie on his opening nine, then flipped the round with three straight birdies from the first to the third. A 25-foot make on the sixth added another, as he navigated a cold morning and tricky pin positions to post the day’s best completed score.
“The conditions were not easy because it was quite cold during the start of my round and it took some time for me to get warmed up. The pin positions were also tough,” Jairaj said. “Keeping these factors in mind I feel I did well to shoot a four-under.”
Currently 25th on the PGTI Ranking with a runner-up already this season, Sandhu put himself in position for a week that could turn his year.
