Sahith Theegala climbed back into the top 10 after a strong third round at the $25 million Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass.
The Indian-American carded a 4-under 68 featuring six birdies and two bogeys to move to 7-under overall with one round remaining. He sits tied 10th heading into the final day.
Another Indian-American, Akshay Bhatia, returned a steady 2-under 70 to move up to tied 26th at 4-under alongside world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, who also shot a 68.
Indo-Canadian Sudarshan Yellamaraju produced one of the best rounds of the day with a 6-under 66 to climb into tied 19th place at 5-under.
Rory McIlroy continued to struggle, posting an even-par round that left him tied 57th at 1-over after three rounds.
Theegala began his round with a birdie on the first but slipped back with a bogey on the seventh to make the turn at level par. He gathered momentum on the back nine with consecutive birdies on the 11th and 12th before a bogey on the 14th briefly halted his progress.
He finished strongly with birdies on the 15th, 17th and 18th to secure a place inside the top 10 alongside Robert MacIntyre, Austin Smotherman, Jacob Bridgeman and Sepp Straka.
At the top of the leaderboard, Sweden’s Ludvig Åberg maintained control after a third-round 1-under 71 moved him to 13-under, giving him a three-shot lead.
Michael Thorbjornsen sits second at 10-under following a 67, while Cameron Young occupies third place at 9-under.
A group of six players — Matt Fitzpatrick, Brian Harman, Viktor Hovland, Justin Thomas, Corey Conners and Xander Schauffele — are tied fourth at 8-under heading into the final round.
