Sunit Chowrasia surged into a three-shot lead after a superb 7-under 65 in round two of the Alpha Sports Academy Golf Championship on the PGTI NexGen Tour in Patna.
Returning from a long injury layoff, the Kolkata golfer moved to 8-under 136 for the tournament, climbing from tied sixth after the opening round.
Rajesh Kumar Gautam sits second at 5-under 139 following a round of 69, while local professional Md Nawab is the best-placed Patna golfer in tied sixth at 1-under 143.
First-round leader Rohit Baisoya slipped down the leaderboard after a 78, dropping into a tie for sixth.
Chowrasia’s round was built on a fast start, with six birdies in his first 12 holes. A lone bogey on the 14th briefly halted momentum, but he responded with birdies on the 15th and 17th to close strongly.
The 25-year-old, nephew of SSP Chawrasia, has recently returned to competitive golf after a three-and-a-half-year break due to a back injury.
The cut fell at 7-over 151, with 42 professionals advancing to the final rounds on the par-72 layout, where the nine-hole course is played twice.
With momentum and confidence building, Chowrasia now holds a clear advantage heading into the closing stages.
