Pranavi Urs emerged as the leading Indian after a difficult opening day at the Amundi German Masters in Hamburg, carding a 3-over 76 at the challenging Green Eagle Golf Courses.
On a day when scoring proved difficult for much of the field, Pranavi mixed two birdies with three bogeys and a costly double bogey to finish as the best-placed Indian heading into round two.
The Bengaluru golfer, who impressed with a top-10 finish at last year’s Hero Women’s Indian Open, will now need a strong second round to push herself back towards the cut line.
Fellow Indian Avani Prashanth also struggled in the tough conditions, returning a 5-over 78 that included one birdie, two bogeys and two double bogeys.
Experienced campaigner Vani Kapoor had the hardest day among the Indians, carding a 10-over 83 featuring five bogeys, a double bogey and a triple bogey.
With the projected cut expected around under par, all three Indians face an uphill battle to make the weekend.
Germany’s Leonie Harm thrilled the home crowd with a flawless bogey-free 8-under 65 to set a new course record and take the opening-round lead.
Fellow German Esther Henseleit stayed close behind after a 7-under 66, while Denmark’s Sofie Kibsgaard and Germany’s Laura Fünfstück shared third at 5-under.
The second round will now be crucial for the Indian trio as they attempt to keep their campaigns alive in Hamburg.
