Shubhankar Sharma fired a seven-under 65 to take a four-shot lead after the second round of the INR 2 crore Vishwa Samudra presents Kapil Dev Invitational Tour Championship powered by NALCO at Jaypee Greens Golf & Spa Resort in Greater Noida.
The 30-year-old from Chandigarh began the day two behind Shaurya Bhattacharya. He made an eagle, seven birdies and two bogeys to reach 11-under 133. His eagle came at the par-five fourth, where a 212-yard six-iron set up an 18-foot putt. Sharma said he had struggled to put his game together in recent weeks. On Friday he shaped shots both ways and felt fully in control, and he left a few putts out there.
The two-time DP World Tour winner ended an eight-year title drought at the Boulders Classic in April. He also praised DP World PGTI President Kapil Dev for bringing in sponsors and improving player facilities on tour.
Brashwarpal Singh matched Sharma’s 65 with eight birdies and one bogey. He jumped from tied 11th to second at seven-under 137.
Bhattacharya slipped to third at six-under 138 after an even-par 72. Khalin Joshi, a four-time winner this season and second in the Race to DP World India Championship, shot 67 and sits fourth at five-under. Last season’s Order of Merit winner Yuvraj Sandhu is fifth at four-under.
DP World India Championship leader Saptak Talwar moved up to tied 31st at three-over 147.
