As the PGA Tour heads to Quail Hollow Club for the Truist Championship, Indian-origin golfers Akshay Bhatia, Sahith Theegala and Sudarshan Yellamaraju will look to build momentum at one of the season’s biggest Signature events.
Bhatia arrives as the lone Indian-origin winner on the PGA Tour this season after his breakthrough victory at the Arnold Palmer Invitational earlier in the year. However, the 24-year-old has endured a mixed run since then, missing cuts at both the Hero Indian Open and the Masters.
The Indian-American now heads to North Carolina hoping to rediscover the form that established him among the PGA Tour’s rising stars.
Sahith Theegala continues to be one of the most consistent Indian-origin players on tour this season. The Californian has already registered four top-10 finishes, including a tied-sixth result at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, and his regular presence in Signature events reflects his growing stature on the PGA Tour.
Known for his aggressive style and creativity around the greens, Theegala will look to convert consistency into a breakthrough win.
Indo-Canadian Sudarshan Yellamaraju has also quietly impressed during his rookie campaign. The Indian-born golfer has recorded two top-10 finishes this season, including a standout performance at THE PLAYERS Championship, and continues to climb steadily on tour.
The field at Quail Hollow remains stacked despite the absence of World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, who has opted to rest this week.
Cameron Young enters as one of the favourites after a stellar season that already includes victories at THE PLAYERS Championship and the Cadillac Championship. The American also finished inside the top three at the Masters and remains one of the hottest players on tour.
Matt Fitzpatrick arrives in equally strong form with three victories in his last four starts, including wins at the RBC Heritage and Valspar Championship.
The Englishman also partnered brother Alex Fitzpatrick to victory at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans, making the Fitzpatricks the first siblings to win tournaments on different tours in consecutive weeks.
Alex Fitzpatrick has continued his rise after earning his PGA Tour card through the Zurich Classic triumph and followed it with a top-10 finish at the Cadillac Championship.
Another notable absentee this week is Indo-British golfer Aaron Rai, who will instead compete at the Myrtle Beach Classic after narrowly missing qualification for the Signature event.
With a world-class field and major championship season approaching, the Truist Championship offers another important opportunity for the Indian-origin trio to make a statement on the PGA Tour.
