Karandeep Kochhar moved inside the top 10 after the second round of the New Zealand Open presented by Millbrook Resort, carding a second successive 67 to stay firmly in contention heading into the weekend.
Kochhar, who opened with a 67, followed it up with another four-under round that included four birdies and an eagle against two bogeys. His consistent play placed him among the leading contenders as the tournament progressed at Millbrook Resort.
The other Indian in the field, Shiv Kapur, missed the cut despite recovering with a second-round 69 after an opening 77.
New Zealand amateur Yuki Miya held the lead after two rounds with a total of 12-under following a round of 67 on the Coronet course.
Australia’s Travis Smyth produced the lowest round of the week with a sparkling 8-under 63, while fellow Australian Wade Ormsby returned a 65 on the Remarkables course. The duo sit just one shot behind the leader alongside New Zealand’s Daniel Hillier, who carded a 68.
The New Zealand Open, jointly sanctioned by the Asian Tour and the Challenger PGA Tour of Australasia in partnership with the Japan Golf Tour, is the second event of the Asian Tour season.
A few groups are yet to complete their second rounds, with play scheduled to conclude on Saturday morning.
