PGTI to hold India’s first pro golf auction for 72 The League on February 16
The Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI) will stage a first-of-its-kind player auction in Indian professional golf on February 16 in Delhi, as 72 The League prepares for its inaugural season.
A pool of 170 professionals — including leading players from 11 countries — will go under the hammer, with six franchises set to draft 10 golfers each to fill 60 roster spots. The total auction purse is INR 6 crore.
72 The League, billed as India’s first exclusive national professional golf league, begins on February 21, 2026. The league is being launched by PGTI in partnership with Game of Life Sports (GOLS), with the finals scheduled for March 6.
For the auction, players have been grouped into three categories based on the 2025 PGTI Order of Merit. The top 30 are in the Platinum bracket, players ranked 31–60 fall under Gold, and the remaining entrants are listed in the Silver category.
The inaugural season will be staged across three Delhi-NCR venues — Classic Golf & Country Club, Jaypee Greens and Qutab Golf Course — and will feature a fast-paced match-play format designed for broadcast and digital viewing.
Alongside the on-course action, organisers have also outlined Pro-Am events and fan-facing experiences aimed at bringing the league closer to audiences through live entertainment and behind-the-scenes digital content.
With franchises set to be finalised at the auction, 72 The League moves into its decisive build-up phase ahead of its February 21 start.
