Pranavi Urs opens with 69 at La Sella

Pranavi Urs returned on Friday morning to complete a three-under 69, finishing the weather-disrupted opening round as the leading Indian in tied ninth.

Pranavi Urs made a strong start to the La Sella Open, posting a three-under 69 to sit tied ninth after the rain-hit opening round in Denia, Spain.

The Hero-supported golfer was two-under with two holes remaining when play was suspended on Thursday. She returned on Friday morning and birdied one of her final two holes to move inside the top 10.

Starting from the 10th, Urs opened with a birdie before dropping a shot at the 11th. She regained momentum with consecutive birdies at the 17th and 18th to make the turn at two-under.

A bogey at the first briefly checked her progress, but she responded with birdies at the fourth and ninth to finish with five birdies against two bogeys.

Italy’s Anna Zanusso established a two-shot lead with a six-under 66. Her round was interrupted by two lengthy weather delays, but she returned on Friday and made two birdies over her final four holes to move clear.

Ariane Klotz, Caitlyn Macnab, Gemma Clews, Helen Briem and Hannah Screen shared second place at four-under.

Diksha Dagar recovered from a difficult middle stretch to open with an even-par 72. After slipping to three-over, she fought back with birdies at the 11th, 13th and 18th.

Avani Prashanth returned a two-over 74 after making one birdie against three bogeys. Vani Kapoor finished at four-over following two birdies and six bogeys, while Hitaashee Bakshi struggled to a five-over 77.

The La Sella Open marks the resumption of the Ladies European Tour season following the Solheim Cup. Urs will begin the second round three strokes behind Zanusso.
