Yuvraj Sandhu continued his solid run in his debut DP World Tour season, emerging as the lone Indian to make the cut at the Estrella Damm Catalunya Championship.
Sandhu, who opened with a 4-under 68, followed it up with an even-par 72 in the second round to move into tied-32nd heading into the weekend.
The Chandigarh golfer mixed birdies and bogeys during a steady second-round effort to comfortably stay inside the cut line and keep himself in contention for another strong finish on the European circuit.
India’s other two players in the field failed to progress. Shubhankar Sharma missed the cut after rounds of 71 and 74, while Veer Ahlawat fell short following scores of 75 and 72.
At the top, Italy’s Stefano Mazzoli and Denmark’s Lucas Bjerregaard shared the halfway lead.
Rookie Mazzoli continued his impressive form with a bogey-free 67 after opening with a 66. The Italian started strongly with back-to-back birdies and closed with another birdie-birdie finish to move to 11-under.
Bjerregaard matched him at the top after also carding a second-round 67, sealing his round with a birdie on the final hole.
South African Yurav Premlall sat one shot behind the leaders after producing the lowest round of his DP World Tour career — a stunning 8-under 64.
Premlall, whose best result this season came at the Hero Indian Open, said he was focused on staying patient rather than thinking too far ahead.
With two rounds remaining, Sandhu will now look to build momentum and climb further up the leaderboard in Catalunya.
