PGTI launches 72 The League, India’s first national professional golf league
Indian golf is set for a major shift after the Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI) announced the launch of 72 The League, the country’s first exclusive national professional golf league, in partnership with Game of Life Sports (GOLS). 72 The League is a city-based, franchise-format professional golf league backed by industry veterans, sports enthusiasts and investors, with legendary golfing personalities set to mentor teams and add credibility and depth to the competition.
The inaugural season tees off on 21 February 2026, with the final scheduled for 6 March 2026, and will be played across three of Delhi NCR’s leading venues – Classic Golf & Country Club, Jaypee Greens and Qutab Golf Course. Each franchise will have 10 professional players chosen through a transparent player auction in January 2026, with leading golfers from the PGTI circuit expected to feature and create one of the tour’s largest competitive platforms.
72 The League will be overseen by some of India’s most experienced sports professionals and administrators, with veteran administrator Amrit Mathur serving as Commissioner, supported by PGTI Board Member Amitabh Kant and Joy Bhattacharjya, Senior Advisor – Strategy and Expansion at GOLS. PGTI CEO Amandeep Johl underlined that the tour’s growth in tournaments, participation and prize money over recent years has set the stage for this next step, while GOLS Co‑Founders Amit Kharabanda and Samant Sikka described the league as a vehicle to take golf to new audiences and make it more mainstream.
PGTI President Kapil Dev said the league represents a new chapter for the sport, creating a structured, team‑based competition that opens fresh opportunities for Indian professionals and aims to mirror the impact of league models in other sports by discovering new players, building communities and increasing fan engagement. With its match-play format designed for television and digital audiences, along with Pro-Ams, fan zones, live entertainment and behind-the-scenes content, 72 The League aims to introduce the game to a younger, wider fan base and position golf more firmly in India’s mainstream sports and lifestyle space.
