Adrian Meronk claims maiden LIV Golf title in Riyadh
Adrian Meronk battled through a tense final round to claim his first-ever LIV Golf title, sealing victory by two shots under the lights at Riyadh Golf Club.
The Polish star looked in control as he reached the back nine with a four-shot cushion after a steady front nine that included one birdie and one bogey. However, his lead quickly evaporated with back-to-back bogeys at the 10th and 11th.
A missed short putt on the 10th and a wayward tee shot on the 11th allowed Sebastian Munoz to close the gap, as the Colombian birdied the same hole to cut Meronk’s advantage to one.
More trouble followed off the 12th tee when Meronk found the left rough, but he managed to salvage par, steadying himself in the process. His approach at the 13th set up a birdie opportunity, but his putt lipped out, allowing Munoz to draw level with a birdie of his own.
Momentum shifted again at the 14th when Munoz missed a crucial par putt, giving Meronk a one-shot lead. The duo remained tied after the 15th, but Meronk finally found his touch on the 16th, sinking a decisive birdie to reclaim the solo lead.
While Munoz stumbled with a bogey at the 17th, Meronk kept his composure, securing pars on the final two holes to seal victory.
Anirban Lahiri, the lone Indian representation on the league, carded rounds of 69-67-69 (11-under) to register a T-12 finish in Riyadh.
Jon Rahm and his Legion XIII team, which included debutant Tom McKibbin, cruised to the team title with a dominant 11-shot win at 50-under.
The players now turn their attention to LIV Golf Adelaide, which kicks off on February 14.
