Alejandro del Rey claims maiden DP World Tour title
Spain’s 26-year-old Alejandro del Rey captured his first DP World Tour title in stunning style, winning the $2.5 million Ras Al Khaimah Championship by four strokes over England’s Marcus Armitage. Del Rey posted rounds of 68-66-66-66 to finish at 22-under-par, marking his 70th start on the tour as one to remember.
Del Rey began the final round with a slim two-shot lead but quickly widened the gap. A blistering start, including birdies at the first and second holes, saw him stretch his advantage to five shots early in the day. Despite a brief charge from Armitage, who trimmed the lead to three at the turn, Del Rey responded with a brilliant back-nine surge.
Chipping in for birdie at the par-3 11th and sinking a 50-foot putt at the 12th, Del Rey rebuilt his lead to six strokes. A third straight birdie at the 13th all but sealed the victory. Fortune also favored the Spaniard—his tee shot at the 15th avoided disaster by hitting a rake, allowing him to save par comfortably.

Reflecting on his triumph, Del Rey expressed both relief and joy. “It’s amazing because this is what I work for. I knew I could win out here, but it hadn’t come together until now.”
