Bhullar one shot off lead in Jakarta
India’s Gaganjeet Bhullar carded a five-under 65 to move into tied second at the Jakarta International Championship, one stroke behind clubhouse leader Pavit Tangkamolprasert of Thailand.
Bhullar, 37, who has won five times in Indonesia, began by completing two holes from round one with a birdie before firing seven more in round two. Despite bogeys on 13 and 15, the Olympian hit all 14 fairways and 16 greens in regulation. “The first-day 61 set the week up. Accuracy was the key today,” he said.
The Asian Tour veteran has made the cut in all four International Series events this year, his best finish being T-14 in Morocco. Out of his 11 Asian Tour wins, five have come in Indonesia, including the 2023 Indonesian Masters and the 2013 Indonesia Open at the same course.
England’s Steve Lewton matched Bhullar with a six-under 66 to sit alongside him, while Thailand’s Tanapat Pichaikool surged into solo fourth with a brilliant eight-under round.
With two rounds left, Bhullar remains well placed to add yet another Indonesian title to his resume, underlining why the country continues to be his happiest hunting ground.
