Dustin Johnson’s 18-year partnership with TaylorMade comes to an end

One of the longest-standing equipment sponsorships in professional golf has officially ended. TaylorMade Golf has parted ways with Dustin Johnson, concluding an 18-year partnership that began when he turned pro in 2007.

Johnson, a two-time major champion and former World No. 1, played TaylorMade clubs throughout his career, winning 24 PGA Tour titles while spending 135 weeks atop the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR)—third all-time behind Tiger Woods and Greg Norman.

The partnership was renewed twice, in 2016 (before Johnson’s U.S. Open victory) and again in 2021, following his 2020 Masters triumph. However, when he joined LIV Golf in 2022, he remained a TaylorMade player but was excluded from marketing campaigns and removed from the company’s website.

Since joining LIV, Johnson has won three events, but the league’s lack of OWGR points has seen his ranking fall to 578th in the world. His last top-10 worldwide finish came at the 2023 U.S. Open, and he struggled in the four majors last season, missing two cuts and failing to finish better than T31 at The Open Championship.

Johnson also ended his 15-year relationship with Adidas in 2023, later securing a sponsorship deal for his LIV team, 4Aces, with Extracurricular apparel.

At LIV Golf Riyadh, Johnson debuted a TaylorMade Qi35 driver, but his hat featured only 4Aces and New Era logos, signaling his free-agent status in the equipment space. He opened the tournament with a solid 67 under the lights but faded over the weekend with rounds of 73 and 74, finishing T44.

As a free gear agent, Johnson now faces an open market, allowing him the flexibility to test and sign with new equipment brands.
