Matt and Alex Fitzpatrick combined for a memorable victory at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans, edging a dramatic finish to claim the title at TPC Louisiana.
The English brothers finished at 31-under, holding their nerve in the final alternate-shot round to secure a one-shot win in the PGA TOUR’s only team event. What looked like a comfortable march turned into a tense battle on the back nine, but the duo delivered when it mattered most.
Matt’s near-perfect bunker shot on the 18th set up a tap-in for Alex, sealing the win and capping a composed closing stretch.
“This is incredibly special,” Alex said. “To do it together, it’s something we’ll remember forever.”
For India-origin players, Sahith Theegala and Aaron Rai closed with a steady 2-under 70 to finish tied 24th. The Indo-Canadian pairing of Sudarshan Yellamaraju and Ryan Gerard also carded 70 to end the week tied 34th.
Up top, the Fitzpatricks had entered the back nine with a four-shot cushion but saw that lead trimmed as chasing teams mounted a late charge. Still, they stayed composed under pressure to close it out.
The win carries added weight for Alex, who recently claimed the Hero Indian Open, and now earns a PGA TOUR exemption through 2028. For Matt, the 2022 U.S. Open champion, it marks his fifth PGA TOUR title and continues a strong run of form.
Teams of Alex Smalley–Hayden Springer and Kristoffer Reitan–Kris Ventura finished tied second at 30-under, falling just short despite strong closing rounds.
The victory also lifts Matt to the top of the FedExCup standings for the first time, while marking a historic milestone as the first English pair to win the Zurich Classic in its team era.
For the Fitzpatrick family, watching from greenside, it was more than just another title — it was a shared moment.
What it means: A breakthrough win for Alex and another big step in Matt’s season, underlining their composure in team format pressure.
What’s next: The PGA TOUR returns to individual stroke play, but the Fitzpatricks leave New Orleans as one of the standout stories of the season.
