Gangjee marks 47th birthday with 66 in Jakarta

Veteran Rahil Gangjee marked his 47th birthday with a blemish-free 4-under 66 to be the best-placed Indian on day one of the Jakarta International Championship at Damai Indah Golf’s PIK Course. The two-time Asian Tour winner made birdies on 9, 13, 14 and 16 to sit three shots behind clubhouse leader Suteepat Prateeptienchai of Thailand, who fired a superb 63.

Gaganjeet Bhullar, a five-time winner in Indonesia, also reached 4-under but still has two holes to complete after play was suspended due to darkness. The Olympian started hot with an eagle at the first and two quick birdies, before dropping his only shot of the day at the 15th.

Among other Indians, Khalin Joshi and Viraj Madappa are safely in at 2-under. The weather played its part, with morning rain delaying action for over an hour and leaving 45 players to finish their opening rounds early Friday.

The Jakarta International Championship is the fifth of nine elevated Asian Tour events on The International Series, offering players a route into the LIV Golf League through the season-long rankings.
