Gujarat Open: Yuvraj Singh secures dominant victory

In a masterclass of precision and composure, Chandigarh’s Yuvraj Sandhu clinched his second consecutive title of the season with a commanding five-shot victory at the INR 1 crore Glade One presents Gujarat Open Golf Championship 2025, held at the scenic Glade One Golf Resort & Club in Ahmedabad.

With a sensational final round of seven-under 65, the best score of the day, Yuvraj (32-34-68-65) stormed to a tournament total of 17-under 199, leaving his competitors in the dust. This triumph, coupled with his victory at the season-opener in Kolkata last week, marks a dream start to the 2025 PGTI season for the 27-year-old, who now holds 11 career titles, including eight on the PGTI.

Complete Control from Start to Finish

Entering the final round with a slender one-shot lead, Yuvraj showcased his intent right from the outset. A blistering start saw him sink birdies on the first two holes, setting the tone for a flawless round. He maintained the momentum by adding three more birdies before the turn, expertly rolling in putts from 8 to 15 feet to consolidate his lead.

Sandhu’s back-nine was a demonstration of calmness under pressure, as he carded two more birdies, sealing the victory with an unblemished scorecard. He found an impressive 17 greens in regulation, ensuring his challengers never got close.

A Rare Back-to-Back Achievement

With this win, Yuvraj became the first player in over two years to secure back-to-back titles on the PGTI, a feat last accomplished by Manu Gandas in December 2022. Yuvraj’s commanding performance not only earned him the winner’s purse of INR 15 lakh but also strengthened his position at the top of the TATA Steel PGTI Ranking.

Reflecting on his achievement, Yuvraj said,
“I began the day with a desire to assert myself and achieve back-to-back wins. There were nerves, but I managed to channel them into focus and determination. I owe a lot to my team back home, especially my coaches. The hospitality at Glade One and PGTI’s excellent organization played a huge role in helping me perform at my best.

“Having Arjun Prasad as my playing partner today was an added advantage. He’s been my roommate for two years, and we shared some fun moments on the course, which helped me stay relaxed. The key to my success in the first two weeks has been my improved mental approach. Staying calm and focused has been my goal, and I’m pleased to see it paying off.”

Talwar Takes Runner-Up, Delhi Duo Share Third

Delhi’s Saptak Talwar (34-34-69-67) secured the runner-up spot at 12-under 204, two positions higher than his overnight standing. His final round of 67 was highlighted by six birdies and a solitary bogey, marking his second runner-up finish on the PGTI.

Kshitij Naveed Kaul and Arjun Prasad, also from Delhi, finished tied for third place at nine-under 207 after shooting matching rounds of 72 on the final day.

Local favorite Varun Parikh from Ahmedabad rounded off his campaign tied 44th at five-over 221.

A Unique Tournament Format

This year’s Gujarat Open featured a distinct format, with the first two rounds consisting of nine holes each. The third and fourth rounds were expanded to 18 holes each, playing the 9-hole course twice with varied pin positions, bringing the total to 54 holes. The par was set at 36 for the first two rounds and 72 for the latter stages.
