Hovland, Lowry Join McIlroy for $4M India Showdown

Delhi Golf Club will have a true international buzz this 16–19 October when the first-ever DP World India Championship brings a $4 million purse and a star-studded field to the capital. Ryder Cup regulars Viktor Hovland and Shane Lowry have confirmed they’ll join Rory McIlroy, Tommy Fleetwood and local favourite Shubhankar Sharma for what promises to be a milestone week for Indian golf.

Lowry, the 2019 Open Champion, hasn’t played in Delhi since the 2010 Avantha Masters, where he finished T-59th. “Playing in front of golf fans around the world is the best part of my job,” he said. “I can’t wait to be back for this first edition.” Hovland, Norway’s rising superstar fresh off an 11th career win at the Valspar Championship, is eager for his Indian debut. “I’ve heard so much about Delhi’s history and can’t wait to experience it for myself,” he said.

The tournament is co-sanctioned with the Professional Golf Tour of India and follows the success of the 2025 Hero Indian Open, underscoring the country’s growing status on the global schedule.

For DP World, the event reflects a long-term investment in Indian golf, from grassroots efforts like the ‘Balls for Birdies’ program to partnerships across major sports. “This championship shows our commitment to India and the game’s future here,” said Yuvraj Narayan, the company’s Group Deputy CEO.

As the eighth stop in the DP World Tour’s “Back 9” leading to the Race to Dubai finale, the DP World India Championship isn’t just another tournament—it’s a statement that world-class golf has found a new home in India.
