Lahiri climbs to T15 as McKibbin extends lead at Hong Kong Open
India’s Anirban Lahiri produced another composed performance with a four-under 66 to sit tied 15th at nine-under-par after two rounds of the Link Hong Kong Open, six shots behind leader Tom McKibbin, who followed up his course-record 60 with a 65 to reach 15-under.
Lahiri, playing for Crushers GC on the LIV Golf League, endured a frustrating start with 11 straight pars, before catching fire with five birdies in his last seven holes. “That stretch followed 11 two-putts for 11 pars, seven of them inside 15 feet,” Lahiri said. “I just couldn’t make a thing early on, but once a few dropped, the momentum came back. I’ve been hitting it beautifully—just need the putter to warm up.”
Reflecting on his season and the stakes this week, Lahiri added: “The Hong Kong Open has so much history, and with the Masters and The Open spots up for grabs, everyone’s giving it everything. Winning here would mean a lot more than just another trophy.”
Among other Indians, S.S.P. Chawrasia (67) is at seven-under, and Ajeetesh Sandhu (68) sits one stroke further back.
Northern Ireland’s McKibbin, part of Jon Rahm’s Legion XIII, leads from Peter Uihlein, Kiradech Aphibarnrat, and Jazz Janewattananond on 13-under. McKibbin remained bogey-free for 36 holes, saying, “It’s been very solid—just keeping mistakes off the card and playing aggressive.”
The tournament continues this weekend at Hong Kong Golf Club, with Lahiri looking to make a final-day charge.
