Akshay Bhatia slipped down the leaderboard after a costly double bogey on his final hole, finishing tied 26th after the second round of the Cadillac Championship at Trump National Doral.
Sudarshan Yellamaraju, meanwhile, carded an impressive 6-under 66 but dropped late shots to settle for tied 16th, despite being on course for a top-five position earlier in the day.
Sahith Theegala endured a difficult round, signing for a 4-over 76 to fall to tied 48th. His card included a double bogey on the eighth and bogeys on the third, ninth and 18th, with just one birdie in a challenging day where the closing stretch proved tricky for much of the field.
Bhatia’s round was equally eventful. He mixed six birdies with four bogeys and a double bogey to post an even-par 72, with the late mistake on the 18th proving particularly costly.
Yellamaraju was the standout among the trio for much of the day. He surged to 9-under through 16 holes, taking full advantage of calmer morning conditions, before a three-shot swing over his final two holes—including a double bogey on the 17th—halted his momentum. He ended the day at 4-under overall but remains well placed heading into the weekend.
At the top, Cameron Young continued to dominate, carding a 5-under 67 to move to 13-under and open up a five-shot lead in the $20 million Signature Event. His only blemish came with a bogey on the 14th.
World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler matched that 67 in a bogey-free round but remains seven shots back in tied sixth.
Nick Taylor (70), Alex Smalley (71) and Jordan Spieth (71) share second place, while Gary Woodland sits solo fifth at 7-under. A group including Alex Fitzpatrick follows at 6-under.
What it means: Yellamaraju remains in the hunt despite a late stumble, while Bhatia and Theegala will need strong weekend rounds to climb back into contention.
What’s next: With Doral punishing mistakes late, managing the closing stretch will be key as the tournament heads into moving day.
