Luke Donald to make India debut at DP World India Championship
European Ryder Cup Captain Luke Donald will add a touch of star power to the US$4 million DP World India Championship at Delhi Golf Club (October 16–19), marking his first professional appearance in India since leading Europe to back-to-back Ryder Cup victories.
Donald, who guided Europe to a 15–13 win at Bethpage Black this September — the first away victory since 2012 — joins a world-class field that includes Rory McIlroy, Tommy Fleetwood, Viktor Hovland, and Shane Lowry. He is only the second European captain after Tony Jacklin (1985, 1987) to win the Ryder Cup both home and away.
The seven-time DP World Tour champion and former World No.1, who boasts 17 career wins, has previously triumphed twice in Asia at Japan’s Dunlop Phoenix Tournament (2012, 2013). “It’s incredibly exciting to be playing in the inaugural DP World India Championship,” Donald said. “It’s shaping up to be a fantastic field, and I’m looking forward to teeing it up in front of the fans in Delhi.”
The event, co-sanctioned with the Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI), represents a new milestone for Indian golf, building on the success of the 2025 Hero Indian Open. The championship also features Major winner Brian Harman, Ben Griffin, and former Ryder Cuppers Nicolas Colsaerts, Rafa Cabrera Bello, Ross Fisher, Andy Sullivan, and Bernd Wiesberger.
Among the Indian contingent are Shubhankar Sharma, Anirban Lahiri, Shiv Kapur, and Veer Ahlawat — the 2024 PGTI Order of Merit winner who earned his DP World Tour card this season.
With the largest-ever prize fund for a DP World Tour event in India, the tournament is set to strengthen India’s position as a premier global golf destination.
