Patrick Reed shoots 59 to lead in Hong Kong

Patrick Reed, the 34-year-old, 2018 Masters champion and a nine-time PGA Tour winner, etched his name into Asian Tour history today with a scintillating 59 at the Link Hong Kong Open. Reed’s masterpiece at Hong Kong Golf Club catapulted him to an 18-under total and a commanding three-shot lead heading into the final round.

Reed’s round featured 11 birdies, marking just the second 59 in Asian Tour history. However, the milestone comes with a caveat: preferred lies were in play, meaning the score won’t be officially recognized.

Reed’s last professional victory dates back to the Farmers Insurance Open in January 2021. Since joining LIV Golf in 2022, he has yet to add to his trophy haul across three seasons. LIV’s partnership with the Asian Tour has bolstered the International Series, offering $2 million purses and a pathway to LIV Golf in 2025 for the season’s money leader.

New Zealand’s Ben Campbell, the defending champion, sits solo fourth at 14-under. Meanwhile, India’s Rashid Khan, whose last Asian Tour win came in 2014, posted rounds of 64-68-63 to join Thailand’s Nitithorn Thippong at 15-under, tied for second.

As Reed eyes his first win in nearly three years, the stage is set for a thrilling conclusion in Hong Kong.
