Sandhu holds two-shot lead at halfway mark in Digboi
PGTI Ranking leader Yuvraj Sandhu stayed in control at the IndianOil SERVO Masters, backing up his opening 65 with a steady three-under 69 to reach 10-under 134 at the halfway stage in Digboi.
Sandhu, a two-time winner at Digboi Golf Links, started quickly with three birdies in his first five holes before dropping shots at seven and eight. He steadied himself with birdies at 11 and 12 but missed a few chances late in the round.
“I made a better start than day one, but the putts didn’t fall on the back nine,” Sandhu said. “Recovery is key now — this course is demanding, and I need my legs fresh for the last two rounds.”
Saptak Talwar, playing the event for the first time, shot a second straight 68 to move to eight-under 136, climbing five spots into solo second. The 25-year-old mixed five birdies and a lone bogey and continued to look comfortable on a course new to him.
Former champion Veer Ahlawat (71) sits in a four-way tie for third at six-under 138 alongside Viraj Madappa (68), Yuvraj Singh (71) and Shivendra Singh Sisodia (71).
The cut fell at four-over 148, with 59 professionals advancing. Local favourite Deven Bhumij was the only Digboi-based player to make it through, finishing at three-over 147.
This year marks the silver-jubilee edition of the SERVO Masters, the PGTI’s longest-running event and North-East India’s premier professional tournament.
