Sandhu’s Tollygunge magic: A commanding PGTI win
Chandigarh’s Yuvraj Sandhu once again found his rhythm at Tollygunge Club, clinching the TATA Steel PGTI Players Championship 2025 with a wire-to-wire victory. His 20-under 260 ensured a two-shot win, marking his second triumph at this venue, the first coming in 2022.
Sandhu (63-61-68-68) led from start to finish, keeping his challengers at arm’s length. Starting the final round with a one-shot lead, he quickly extended it with three early birdies. A stumble on the 15th made things tense as Bangladesh’s Jamal Hossain (65-62-66-69) closed the gap, but Sandhu’s clutch 12-foot birdie on the 16th shut the door. A closing bogey didn’t matter—his seventh PGTI title and 10th pro win were secure.
Hossain finished runner-up at 18-under 262, while Rahil Gangjee of Bengaluru took third at 14-under 266. Dhruv Sheoran’s final-round 63 propelled him into a tie for fifth. Veteran SSP Chawrasia was Kolkata’s best performer, tied for eighth at 11-under 269.
Sixteen-year-old Anshul Mishra, the only amateur to make the cut, claimed the Best Amateur trophy at five-under 275.
“This place just feels like home,” Sandhu said, crediting his recent mental training with Rabia Gill for keeping him composed under pressure. With INR 15 lakh in winnings and the PGTI Order of Merit lead, he’s now eyeing success on the Asian Tour.
