Scottie Scheffler withdraws from The American Express

World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler has officially withdrawn from The American Express, citing the need for more time to recover from a hand injury. The announcement, made Monday via Scheffler’s Instagram story, means fans will have to wait a little longer to see the reigning FedExCup champion kick off his 2025 campaign.

“After consulting with my medical team, I have made the decision to withdraw from next week’s American Express tournament to give my injury more time to heal,” Scheffler shared. “I am still hopeful to begin my 2025 season at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am.”

The injury, sustained on Christmas Day while preparing dinner, required surgery after a broken glass left fragments embedded in the palm of his right hand. According to his manager, Blake Smith, the initial recovery timeline was three to four weeks. However, the healing process has delayed Scheffler’s return to action, with The American Express, scheduled for Jan. 16-19 in La Quinta, California, now off the table.

Scheffler’s 2024 season was nothing short of historic. The 27-year-old Texan captured nine titles worldwide, including seven PGA TOUR victories. His résumé boasted repeat wins at both the Masters and THE PLAYERS, a coveted Olympic gold medal, and a dominant performance at the TOUR Championship to secure his first FedExCup. Four Signature Event wins underscored his remarkable consistency, and his achievements earned him PGA TOUR Player of the Year honors for a third straight season—a feat last accomplished by Tiger Woods from 2005-2007.

Scheffler now eyes the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, slated for Jan. 30-Feb. 2, as his potential season debut. He finished T6 in last year’s edition, setting the stage for what fans hope will be another unforgettable year for the game’s top-ranked star.
