Shaurya Bhattacharya clinches Chhattisgarh Open title
Shaurya Bhattacharya showed his class and composure at the SECL Chhattisgarh Open 2025, firing an exceptional six-under 63 in the final round to seal a commanding five-shot victory. Finishing at a staggering 27-under 249, Bhattacharya’s error-free performance at the Fairway Golf & Lake Resort in Naya Raipur underlined his growing stature on the PGTI circuit.
Starting the day with a five-shot cushion, the 22-year-old Delhi golfer displayed remarkable control, maintaining his lead throughout to secure his second professional title. His week was nothing short of extraordinary, posting scores of 64, 61, 61, and 63 while dropping just one bogey across all four rounds. His consistency earned him a winner’s cheque of INR 15 lakh, propelling him from 59th to second in the TATA Steel PGTI Ranking.
Bhattacharya’s final round began cautiously with seven straight pars. However, he found his rhythm by taking full advantage of the three Par-5s on the course. Birdies at the 8th and 11th were followed by a sensational eagle on the 13th, displaying his strategic play and aggressive approach. A precise 12-footer on the 12th and a stunning tee shot on the Par-3 17th, landing just two feet from the pin, sealed his victory in style.
Reflecting on his dominant week, Bhattacharya said, “I was in control throughout, only dropping one bogey. My focus was on staying in the moment and managing my breathing, which kept me calm under pressure. I knew I was striking the ball well, so my plan was to be aggressive and attack the flags. Thankfully, everything clicked perfectly today.”
Delhi’s Sachin Baisoya made a spirited charge with a spectacular 61, the day’s best score, finishing second at 22-under 254. Meanwhile, Sri Lankan golfer N Thangaraja secured third place at 21-under 255 after a consistent 64 on the final day.
With this dominant victory, Bhattacharya not only solidifies his position as one of India’s brightest young talents but also builds tremendous momentum for the remainder of the season.
