Shubhankar Sharma misses cut in Korea despite late fightback

India’s Shubhankar Sharma wrapped up a challenging season on a disappointing note, missing the cut at the Genesis Championship despite a spirited second-round effort at Woo Jeong Hills Country Club.

After a rough opening 77 (+6) that featured a disastrous run of five bogeys and a double bogey between holes two and seven, Sharma bounced back impressively with a three-under 68 in the second round. His card included five birdies and two bogeys, showing flashes of the form that once made him one of Asia’s most consistent performers. However, the strong finish wasn’t enough to undo the damage from day one, and Sharma fell short of the cut line.

Meanwhile, Sweden’s Mikael Lindberg fired a four-under 67 to grab a share of the lead with Spain’s Nacho Elvira heading into the final round. Lindberg, a graduate of the HotelPlanner Tour, is chasing his maiden DP World Tour victory after carding six birdies against two bogeys to reach eight-under overall. Elvira, who shot 69, is seeking his third career title and first since the 2024 Soudal Open.

A group of contenders, including China’s Haotong Li, Japan’s Yuto Katsuragawa, and England’s Alex Fitzpatrick and Andy Sullivan, trail by two at six-under.

The Genesis Championship marks the final regular event of the Race to Dubai before the DP World Tour Playoffs. The Top 115 players retain their cards for 2026, while the Top 70 qualify for the season-ending Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship, where Sharma will aim to reset and rebuild for next year.
