Shubhankar Sharma opens two-shot lead with back-to-back 66s in Hyderabad

Shubhankar Sharma continued his strong return with a second straight 6-under 66 to take a two-shot lead after round two of the Boulders Classic in Hyderabad.

The 29-year-old leads at 12-under 132 in his first DP World PGTI start since December 2021, putting together two controlled rounds to move to the top of the leaderboard.

Divyanshu Bajaj produced the round of the day — a bogey-free 7-under 65 — to climb into solo second at 10-under, while overnight leader Vishesh Sharma slipped to third at 9-under after a 70.

Honey Baisoya delivered the standout moment of the day, breaking the course record with a stunning 8-under 64. His round, featuring an eagle, eight birdies and two bogeys, lifted him 38 places into a tie for fourth at 8-under alongside Ajeetesh Sandhu (68) and Anshul Kabthiyal (67).

Shubhankar’s round was built on consistency. He made seven birdies against a lone bogey and finished strongly with back-to-back birdies to extend his advantage.

“I’ve finished well both days with a couple of birdies, so that’s been encouraging,” Sharma said. “I stayed patient and gave myself chances. Converting a few early helped me settle into the round.”

He added: “This course demands precision. You have to keep the ball in play and take your chances when they come.”

Bajaj’s flawless round included an eagle on the par-5 14th, where he hit his second to 20 feet and converted.

“A clean card was important today,” Bajaj said. “It’s a tricky course with penalty areas, so hitting fairways makes a big difference.”

Teenager Vishesh Sharma, who set the course record on day one, continued to impress despite a quieter round. He holed out for a second straight eagle on the 14th to stay in contention.

“I had a rough stretch, but the eagle helped me reset,” he said.

The cut fell at even-par 144, with 53 players advancing, while Yuvraj Sandhu moved to 3-under after a 68 to sit T-27.

With two rounds to play, Sharma holds the edge — but a packed chasing group ensures the weekend remains wide open.
