Theegala is 27th as debutant Brennan wins Bank of Utah title
Sahith Theegala saw a promising start fade away in the final round of the Bank of Utah Championship, missing out on a potential top-10 finish.
Three-under through the first five holes at the Black Desert Resort, Theegala’s charge was halted by a costly double bogey after driving into the native area. A missed short putt compounded the damage, and though he regrouped with three birdies against one bogey, his 3-under 68 left him tied for 27th at 11-under 273.
Theegala’s birdies came on the ninth, 14th, and 18th, but a dropped shot on the 13th slowed his progress. Despite the slip, the Indian-American will look to build on his form over the remaining three events of the PGA TOUR Fall series after an injury-disrupted season.
Meanwhile, Michael Brennan made a sensational professional debut, capturing the title with a composed 5-under 66. The 23-year-old, playing on a sponsor exemption, finished at 22-under 262 — four shots clear of Rico Hoey (67).
Brennan became the first sponsor exemption to win on the PGA TOUR since Nick Dunlap triumphed at The American Express in January 2024 as an amateur. His victory secures a two-year exemption on the PGA TOUR, a place in the PGA Championship, and entry into the $20 million RBC Heritage.
Though he closed with a bogey after finding a lava-rock pit on the 18th, Brennan’s powerful play — including a 411-yard drive on the 12th that led to a birdie — sealed a dominant win.
While victories in the FedExCup Fall no longer grant automatic Masters invitations, Brennan’s win propels him just inside the top 50 in the world rankings — putting Augusta National within reach. With three PGA TOUR events left this year, he now has a clear path to secure that coveted Masters spot.
