Tvesa Malik leads Indian challenge on rain-hit opening day in Taiwan
India’s Tvesa Malik emerged as the top Indian performer on a weather-affected opening day of the Wistron Ladies Open at the Sunrise Golf and Country Club, Taiwan. Malik, who started her round on the back nine, was even-par through eight holes when play was suspended due to heavy rain, placing her tied 19th on the leaderboard.
Fellow Indian Avani Prashanth had a tougher start. Beginning on the front nine, she was five-over after nine holes with three bogeys and one double bogey when play was halted, leaving her tied for 51st. Meanwhile, Pranavi Urs and Hitaashee Bakshi, both coming off strong performances at the Hero Women’s Indian Open, did not get to start their rounds before play was called off.
At the top of the leaderboard, Lauren Walsh of Ireland and Thailand’s Kornkamol Sukaree were tied for the lead at four-under-par, having completed 12 holes. Order of Merit leader Shannon Tan, fresh from her victory at the Hero Women’s Indian Open, and defending champion Chiara Tamburlini had yet to begin their rounds when the weather intervened.
Among other notable names, Canadian teenage sensation Anna Huang, returning to action after back-to-back wins in Spain and France, was one-over through 11 holes and tied for 28th.
With players set to resume early on Friday, Malik will aim to build on her steady start, while Prashanth, Urs, and Bakshi look to find momentum as the tournament continues under improved weather conditions.
